Forex Trading – Major, Minor & Exotic Pairs
What is Forex market?
The Forex market, also known as the foreign exchange market, is the world’s largest and most liquid financial marketplace, with daily trading volumes reaching several trillion dollars. It operates 24 hours a day, 5 days per week and is divided into three major trading sessions, giving traders continuous access to global currency movements.<br
Forex trading takes place over a decentralised electronic banking network and plays a vital role in the global economy. It enables international trade, cross-border investments and the smooth flow of capital by allowing currencies to be exchanged efficiently.

Currency Pairs
How Forex Trading Works
Forex trading is the process of buying one currency while selling another at the same time. Traders aim to profit from fluctuations in exchange rates as currencies rise or fall in value. These movements are influenced by factors such as interest rates, economic news and overall market sentiment.
For example, if you expect the Euro to strengthen against the US Dollar due to improving economic conditions in the EU, you might decide to buy the EUR/USD currency pair. If the exchange rate moves in your favour, the position increases in value, allowing you to close the trade with a profit.
Bid and Ask Prices
Every currency pair is quoted with two prices: the bid and the ask.
- The bid price is the rate at which you can sell the base currency.
- The ask price is the rate at which you can buy the base currency.
The ask price is always slightly higher than the bid price. The difference between the two prices is known as the spread, which represents the cost of entering the market.

Forex Trading Uses Leverage and Margin
Forex trading often involves leverage, which allows you to control a larger position than the amount you deposit. Margin is the capital required to open a leveraged trade.
For example, with 200:1 leverage, you can control a position worth $100,000 with only $500 in margin. Leverage can increase potential profits, but it also increases risk. Losses can grow quickly, so responsible risk management is essential.
