Educational content. This article is a lookup sheet for the contract size, tick value and volume limits of every instrument in the Vanto feed. It does not constitute investment advice or a recommendation. CFD trading carries significant risk of loss and may not be suitable for all investors.
A contract size is how much of the underlying one lot represents, and a tick value is the money gained or lost per lot when the price moves one tick. In the Vanto feed, 42 forex pairs use 100,000 units, gold 100 ounces, silver 5,000 ounces, and every index and listed cryptocurrency 1 unit. One point on gold is worth USD 1.00 per lot.
This page is a reference. The definition of contract size is in what is contract size in trading. Pip values for each forex pair are in pip value for every forex pair at Vanto, and margin per lot is in margin required for 1 lot. This sheet adds what those pages do not: tick size and tick value for all asset classes in one place, and the smallest tradable position in units of the underlying.
How Do You Calculate Tick Value From Contract Size?
Tick value per lot is the contract size multiplied by the tick size, expressed in the profit currency of the symbol.
Tick value = contract size x tick size, then converted to your account currency.
The feed gives the number of digits (decimals) of each price. This sheet takes the tick as one point, the last displayed decimal, so tick size = 10 to the power of minus digits. The feed has no separate tick-size field, so confirm "Tick size" and "Tick value" in the MT5 symbol window before relying on a figure for a live order.
Three steps give any figure on the page:
- Find the contract size and the number of digits of the symbol.
- Multiply contract size by the tick size to get the tick value in the profit currency.
- Multiply by the number of lots, and convert the profit currency to your account currency at the current rate.
Example: BTCUSD has a contract size of 1 and 2 digits, so the tick is 0.01 and the tick value is 1 x 0.01 = USD 0.01 per lot. A lot of 0.01 gains or loses USD 0.0001 per tick, or USD 0.01 per 1.00 move.

Which Asset Classes Use Which Contract Size?
Contract size follows the asset class, so five numbers cover the whole catalogue of 77 symbols.
| Asset class | Symbols | Contract size (1 lot) | Typical tick | Tick value per lot | Max leverage |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Forex | 42 | 100,000 units of base currency | 0.00001 (0.001 on yen pairs) | 1 quote-currency unit (100 JPY on yen pairs) | 1:500 |
| Metals | 2 | 100 oz (XAUUSD), 5,000 oz (XAGUSD) | 0.01 / 0.0001 | USD 1.00 / USD 0.50 | 1:500 |
| Energies | 3 | 100 units | 0.001 | USD 0.10 | 1:100 |
| Indices | 18 | 1 index unit | 0.01 | 0.01 of the index currency | 1:100 |
| Cryptocurrencies | 12 listed here | 1 coin | 10 to the power of minus digits | the tick itself, in USD | 1:10 |

Leverage is the maximum per asset class and sets how much margin a position needs, not how much a tick is worth. Leverage amplifies losses as well as gains. See what is leverage in trading for the mechanism.
Forex: Tick Value by Quote Currency
Forex tick value depends on the quote currency and the digits, because the contract size is 100,000 on every pair. All 42 pairs share one volume rule: minimum 0.01 lot, step 0.01, maximum 200 lots.

One point is not one pip on every pair. On 5-digit and 3-digit symbols a pip is 10 points. USDSGD has 6 digits, so a pip is 100 points, which is why its per-point value is a tenth of a SGD while its per-pip value equals the other SGD pairs. The pip is explained in what is a pip in trading, and why cross pairs differ is covered in forex cross pairs explained.
Metals and Energies: Contract Size and Smallest Position
Metals and energies have a contract size above 1, and the smallest position differs between them more than the contract size does.
| Symbol | Contract size | Digits | Tick | Tick value per lot (USD) | Min / step / max lot | Smallest position |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| XAUUSD | 100 oz | 2 | 0.01 | 1.00 | 0.01 / 0.01 / 20 | 1 oz |
| XAGUSD | 5,000 oz | 4 | 0.0001 | 0.50 | 0.01 / 0.01 / 20 | 50 oz |
| UKOIL | 100 units | 3 | 0.001 | 0.10 | 0.1 / 0.1 / 100 | 10 units |
| USOil | 100 units | 3 | 0.001 | 0.10 | 0.1 / 0.1 / 100 | 10 units |

Gold and silver share the same minimum lot (0.01) but not the same minimum exposure: 0.01 lot of silver is 50 ounces, 50 times the 1 ounce in 0.01 lot of gold. The metals also share the ceiling of 20 lots. How spot gold differs from futures gold is covered in spot vs futures gold. Metals and energies are different asset classes with different leverage (1:500 and 1:100), covered in how to trade commodities.
Indices: One Contract Size, Different Currencies
All 18 indices have a contract size of 1 and 2 digits, so the tick is 0.01 and one index point is worth one unit of the index currency per lot.
| Symbol | Currency | 1.00 index point per lot | In USD (snapshot) | Min / step / max lot |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AUS200 | AUD | 1 AUD | 0.70 | 0.01 / 0.01 / 100 |

| VIX | USD | 1 USD | 1.00 | 10 / 1 / 1,000 |
Source: Vanto feed snapshot, 10 October 2026, mid prices. Tick value per lot is 0.01 of the index currency on every row.
Two things are easy to miss. The currency of the index sets the value of a point, so one point on JP225 is worth less than a cent while one point on UK100 is worth about USD 1.32 at this snapshot. And five indices (JP225, STOXX50, SWI20, US2000, VIX) do not accept 0.01 lot: their minimum is 1 lot, or 10 on VIX, so the smallest position is 1 index unit or 10. See what is an index CFD and CFD index trading for the instrument itself.
Cryptocurrencies: Contract Size 1, Ticks Everywhere
Every listed cryptocurrency has a contract size of 1 coin, but the digits run from 2 to 6, so the tick value is not comparable between coins.
| Symbol | Digits | Tick (USD) | Min / step / max lot | Smallest position |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BTCUSD | 2 | 0.01 | 0.01 / 0.01 / 5 | 0.01 coin |
| ETHUSD | 2 | 0.01 | 0.01 / 0.01 / 100 | 0.01 coin |
| BCHUSD | 2 | 0.01 | 0.01 / 0.01 / 10 | 0.01 coin |
| LTCUSD | 3 | 0.001 | 0.05 / 0.01 / 10 | 0.05 coin |
| AVAXUSD | 3 | 0.001 | 0.1 / 0.01 / 100 | 0.1 coin |
| SOLUSD | 3 | 0.001 | 1 / 0.01 / 100 | 1 coin |
| DOTUSD | 3 | 0.001 | 1 / 1 / 200 | 1 coin |
| LINKUSD | 3 | 0.001 | 1 / 1 / 200 | 1 coin |
| XRPUSD | 4 | 0.0001 | 50 / 0.01 / 10,001 | 50 coins |
| ADAUSD | 5 | 0.00001 | 1 / 0.01 / 100 | 1 coin |
| UNIUSD | 5 | 0.00001 | 1 / 0.01 / 100 | 1 coin |
| DOGEUSD | 6 | 0.000001 | 40 / 1 / 100 | 40 coins |
Source: Vanto feed snapshot, 10 October 2026. Tick value per lot in USD equals the tick, because the contract size is 1.
Because the contract size is 1, a move of 1.00 in the price is USD 1 per lot on every coin, but a 1.00 move means very different things on a coin near USD 83,000 and one near USD 0.09. A ticket for 40 DOGEUSD lots and a ticket for 0.01 BTCUSD lot are both the minimum, and neither says anything about risk until the price is added. Crypto contract specifications and risks are covered in crypto CFD trading; minimum volume rules are in what is minimum lot size.
Worked Examples: Turning the Sheet Into Money
Each example multiplies lots x contract size x price move, with the arithmetic shown. Levels are illustrative.
1. Gold, 0.10 lot, a 5.00 move. Contract size 100, tick 0.01, tick value USD 1.00 per lot. 0.10 x 100 x 5.00 = USD 50. In ticks: 500 ticks x USD 0.10 per tick (0.10 lot) = USD 50.
2. Silver, 0.10 lot, a 0.50 move. Contract size 5,000. 0.10 x 5,000 x 0.50 = USD 250. The silver move is a tenth of the gold move in price units, yet the money is five times larger, because the contract is 50 times bigger.
3. DE40, 0.50 lot, a 20-point move. Contract size 1. 0.50 x 1 x 20 = EUR 10. At the snapshot rate of 1.12021 USD per EUR that is about USD 11.20.
4. USDJPY, 1 lot, a 0.10 move (10 pips). 100,000 x 0.10 = JPY 10,000. At USDJPY of about 158.30 that is 10,000 / 158.30 = about USD 63.17.
5. DOGEUSD, minimum 40 lots, a 0.01 move. 40 x 1 x 0.01 = USD 0.40. On BTCUSD, 0.01 lot and a 10.00 move give 0.01 x 1 x 10.00 = USD 0.10.
All five can be a gain or a loss; leverage does not change the arithmetic, it changes how much margin the position needs.
When the Sheet Does Not Match Your Platform
A sheet like this fails in four places, and each one is a reason to check the symbol window before an order.
- Tick size and point differ. This page assumes the tick is one point. If the symbol window shows a larger tick size, the tick value on the platform is larger, but the value per 1.00 move is unchanged.
- Account currency. Figures are in USD. A non-USD account converts at the live rate, so the USD column drifts all day. The contract size does not.
- Snapshot staleness. Volume limits and contract sizes can change when the specification changes. The date on every table matters.
- Pips versus points. MT5 can report a stop in points. Divide by 10 for 5-digit and 3-digit forex symbols, and by 100 for USDSGD, before using pip values. Hedging accounts in MT5 treat each position separately; see hedging vs netting in MT5.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the contract size of gold and silver at Vanto?
Gold (XAUUSD) is 100 troy ounces per lot and silver (XAGUSD) is 5,000 troy ounces per lot in the Vanto feed snapshot of 10 October 2026. The silver lot holds 50 times as many ounces as the gold lot. Both have a minimum lot of 0.01 and a maximum of 20.
What is the tick value of EURUSD?
Tick value is USD 1 per lot per point, and USD 10 per pip, because EURUSD has 5 digits and a contract size of 100,000. At 0.01 lot the pip is worth USD 0.10. The same logic applies to the other three USD-quoted pairs.
Why is the tick value on JP225 less than a cent?
One point on JP225 is JPY 1 per lot, and one yen is worth about USD 0.0063 at the snapshot rate. The tick of 0.01 is a hundredth of that. The minimum lot on JP225 is 1, so the smallest position is 1 index unit.
Is tick value the same as pip value?
No. A pip is a convention (0.0001, or 0.01 on yen pairs) and a tick is the smallest price step of the symbol. On 5-digit and 3-digit forex symbols one pip is 10 ticks, on USDSGD 100 ticks. Non-forex symbols have no pip, so only the tick and the 1.00 move are used.
Where do I check the specification of a symbol in MT5?
Open Market Watch, right-click the symbol and choose Specification. The window shows contract size, digits, tick size, tick value and the volume limits. It is the authoritative figure for your account; this article is a dated reference.
Do contract sizes change with the price or the leverage?
No. Contract size is fixed in the symbol specification and does not move with the price or with leverage. Notional value (contract size x price x lots) moves with the price, and margin follows the leverage cap of the asset class.
